Arcadia Elementary School
Toledo, Oregon

The hydroponic lab gives students active, hands on learning experiences with an integrated cirriculum including hydroponics and aquaculture, as well as basic educational requirements.

The hydroponics greenhouse project at the Arcadia School began in 1996, a Twinning Adventures Project with St. Werburg's School in Mutare Zimbabwe.  NFT tube growers and container gardens are easy to construct and maintain.

Aquaculture is incorporated in the lab using fish waste water as a hydroponic nutrient.

The lab provides opportunities for learning about animals and plants, and how they benefit each other in a growing space.

Students experiment with a ring of copper pennies
to learn about insect control methods.
