Micro Farms Unit 10. Water gathering and waste water
The water required for a fully operational farm is a lot and some method of ensuring a supply is necessary to establish a microfarm. This is a very important part of the design. If a steady supply of water is not available then intensive farming is not recommended.

Water Resources

Water for the farm can come from four basic sources

1. Surface water, a nearby stream or river, irrigation canal that delivers water to the farm.

2. Groundwater or a well that provides water pumped from under the ground

3. Rainwater - water from rains that is gathered in storage tanks, ponds or other structures.

4. A nearby spring - water which has been filtered through the ground. Of the four options, each has limitations and problems associated with it and all are going to require work. A successful microfarm will probably be limited more by water than any other resourse.
