Report on the trip to Peru. Part of the reason to go to Peru was to obtain better replacement footage for about 30 minutes of the three hour easy gro training course. About 20 minutes of that footage was obtained and in now in the training course, ready for the next printed of 50 sets. The footage we needed for hydroponic forage and solar greenhouses was not obtained on the trip. The forage footage can be substituted for footage shot in El Dorado Springs. The solar greenhouse footage is replaced now with still photos. We also have a wonderful 14 hours of excellent video of terraced agriculture and gravity fed irrigation. I think that it will make an excellent 46 minute film suitable for television broadcast. I have finished writing the voice overs for the television video and will send a copy to anyone who wants to review it. We met with the Director of the La Molina University and he will be having a symposium in August in Peru. He wants to attract 180 invited papers and needs helping in publicity for the symposium. We are working with the La Molina project in a few different ways. One is that the school competition that has been held in Peru is no longer taking place due to lack of money. Alfredo and I have been working on this and have a volunteer grant writer who will help set this up in a proposal. We hope to take it to Cola-cola and others. I would like to interest Coca-Cola in our work because they could help us with television. I am working with Alfredo and others on the Microfarms concept, and Alfredo has agreed to become a member of the Microfarms advisory group. This site for this is www.microfarms.com. The microfarms concept has been a part of our work for about four years now, mostly at the concept, scientific paper level. This is our first effort to start and use it for a project. At some point the ISH board will have to decide if they wish for this project of ours to spin off into a non-profit distinct from us. Now I see it as a cooperative and it gets its support for the website from ISH. We agreed to begin a nationwide proposal to take the desert coastline of Peru and offer it to people in poverty, one hectare at a time to build microfarms. We will be offering this as a carbon sequestration project to mitigate global warming. I am drafting the first proposal now. We shot film around Peru for a month and went to terraces nw being used and filmed ancient irrigation methods. The video looks real good so far. Deliverables for the trip. |
